Best Ecommerce Platform in Jordan: An Honest 2026 Comparison

The best ecommerce platform in Jordan is the one that accepts a business based in Jordan, prices in Jordanian dinars, and handles the way Jordanians actually pay: cash on delivery first, then CliQ and cards. For most merchants that points to Shopify, while WooCommerce or a custom build suits teams with developers, and Saudi platforms such as Salla and Zid deserve a direct check on Jordan support before you commit. This comparison is written for a merchant in Amman, Irbid or Zarqa, not for a Saudi or global reader.

What a Jordanian merchant should check first

Most platform comparisons are written for Saudi Arabia or the United States, and their conclusions do not transfer. A store run from Jordan has its own checklist:

  1. Does the platform accept a merchant based in Jordan? Some regional platforms are built around a Saudi commercial registration and Saudi payment accounts.
  2. JOD as the store currency. Your prices, invoices and reports should be in dinars, with three decimal places shown correctly.
  3. Local payments. Cash on delivery is the default for many Jordanian buyers, CliQ is the fast-growing alternative, and cards need a provider that works with Jordanian bank accounts.
  4. Delivery. Amman and the governorates need different rates and times, and your courier must fit your order flow.
  5. Arabic and English. A real right-to-left Arabic storefront, plus English for expats and Gulf customers.
  6. Apps and integrations. WhatsApp, reviews, supplier sync, accounting and ads tracking.
  7. Total effort. Who maintains hosting, security, updates and integrations a year from now.

Flow of five checks for choosing an ecommerce platform from Jordan: Jordan onboarding, JOD pricing, local payments, delivery zones and the Gulf plan Figure: the checks to settle, in order, before you build your store.

The five options in brief

Shopify is a global hosted platform. It works for merchants in Jordan, and we have built and managed many Jordanian stores on it. Shopify’s own documentation lists the countries where Shopify Payments is available, and Jordan is not one of them, so a Jordanian store connects a third-party payment provider for cards. Cash on delivery is available as a manual payment method.

Salla is a Saudi platform built Arabic-first, with ready local payment and shipping integrations, a local app marketplace and Arabic support. It also markets to merchants elsewhere in the Gulf. Its compliance tools (commercial registration or freelance document, Saudi VAT) are built around Saudi businesses. We could not confirm on its official pages that it onboards Jordan-registered merchants or sells in JOD, so check with Salla directly. Our detailed comparison is in Shopify vs Salla.

Zid is a Riyadh-based platform for Saudi merchants, with its own payment service designed around Saudi business entities and growing Gulf ambitions. The same advice applies: confirm Jordan onboarding and JOD support with Zid. See Shopify vs Zid for the full comparison.

WooCommerce is a free, open-source plugin for WordPress. Its core currency list includes the Jordanian dinar, and it runs anywhere you can host WordPress. The trade-off is that hosting, security, backups, plugin updates and speed are yours to manage.

A custom build means a developer or team writes the store from scratch. You get exactly what you specify, and you also own every bug, payment integration, security patch and future change.

Comparison of Shopify, Salla and Zid, and WooCommerce for a store based in Jordan on merchant onboarding, JOD, cash on delivery, CliQ, hosting and ongoing effort Figure: how the main platforms compare on what matters for a Jordanian merchant.

Payments in Jordan: cash on delivery, CliQ and cards

Payments decide more Jordanian platform choices than design does. Cash on delivery remains the first choice for many buyers, especially on a first order, so the platform must let you restrict it, add a fee, and confirm orders before shipping. On Shopify it is a manual payment method you switch on in payment settings.

CliQ is Jordan’s instant payment system, operated by JoPACC under the supervision of the Central Bank of Jordan. Customers pay from their banking app using the store’s alias. No mainstream platform has CliQ built in for Jordanian stores, so the real question is how cleanly you can add it. On Shopify you either create a manual payment method with transfer instructions or build a custom app that matches transfers to orders. Both paths are explained in CliQ payment on Shopify in Jordan.

For cards, ask any payment provider you speak to whether it supports your platform and settles into a Jordanian bank account. Platform choice and gateway choice go together, and the fees differ by provider, so compare them alongside the subscription. The Shopify side of the cost is covered in Shopify pricing in Jordan.

Delivery, language and apps

Delivery. Jordanian stores need at least two shipping zones: Amman, and the governorates at a different rate and time. Before choosing a platform, ask your delivery company which platforms it connects to and how orders, tracking numbers and collected cash move between you. Our guide to delivery companies in Jordan for online stores covers what to ask.

Language. Salla and Zid are Arabic by design. On Shopify and WooCommerce, Arabic quality depends on the theme: a theme prepared for right-to-left layout looks native, while a poorly prepared one looks translated. Shopify also lets you run Arabic and English on the same store, which suits Jordan’s bilingual buyers and expats.

Apps. Shopify’s App Store is the largest of the five, which matters once you need reviews, WhatsApp automation, supplier sync or accounting. Our own WhatsApp Pilot app (whatsapppilot.esafqa.com), for example, sends order confirmations on WhatsApp, which helps cut refused cash-on-delivery orders.

Selling from Jordan to the Gulf

Many Jordanian brands, especially in perfume and beauty, want Gulf customers. Three facts shape this:

  • CliQ works only inside Jordan and in JOD, so it does not help with Gulf buyers.
  • Shopify supports per-market pricing and shipping zones on all plans, but showing and charging local currencies at checkout requires Shopify Payments (or an enterprise gateway). A Jordan-based store without Shopify Payments charges Gulf customers in its store currency by card.
  • Saudi platforms are built for Saudi and Gulf selling, but you first need to confirm they accept a business based in Jordan.

If the Gulf is a serious part of your plan, decide early whether you sell from Jordan with clear delivery and customs terms, or later set up a separate store with a business entity in a Gulf country. Either way, get this decided before you build, not after.

From our experience: we developed a custom CliQ payment app integrated with Bank al Etihad for Xmart, an Amman electronics store with thousands of products, because the manual method could not keep up with order volume. We also moved Luliz from Magento to Shopify with no lost products or rankings, and Sophie’s from Odoo. Moving platforms works, but choosing well the first time saves months.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best ecommerce platform in Jordan for a new store?

For most new stores based in Jordan, Shopify is the practical starting point because it accepts Jordanian merchants, supports JOD as a store currency, includes cash on delivery as a manual payment method and has apps for almost every need. A merchant with a technical team and very specific requirements may prefer WooCommerce or a custom build.

Can I use Salla or Zid if my business is registered in Jordan?

Both are Saudi platforms whose payments and compliance tools are built around Saudi businesses. We could not confirm from their official pages that they onboard Jordan-registered merchants or sell in JOD, so check directly with Salla or Zid before you build.

Does Shopify accept CliQ payments in Jordan?

CliQ is not built into Shopify. You can add it as a manual payment method with transfer instructions, or build a custom app that matches CliQ transfers to orders automatically, which is what we did for an electronics store in Amman.

Is Shopify Payments available in Jordan?

No. Jordan is not on Shopify's list of Shopify Payments countries, so a Jordanian store connects a third-party payment provider for cards. This also means checkout is in the store currency rather than in each customer's local currency.

Which platform is best for selling from Jordan to the Gulf?

Shopify is the most flexible for multi-country shipping zones, per-market pricing and bilingual stores. Plan the payment side carefully: Gulf customers cannot pay with CliQ, and without Shopify Payments they pay in your store currency by card.
