Snapchat Ads Guide for Online Stores in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf

Snapchat ads are paid placements that appear between Stories, in Spotlight and in the Chat tab of the Snapchat app, managed in Snapchat Ads Manager where you choose the objective, audience, budget and format. For an online store in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, the short path is: a properly set up business account, a Snap Pixel connected to your Shopify store, a Sales campaign, native vertical video, and measurement by store orders rather than platform numbers. This Snapchat ads guide walks through every step as we apply it at E-SAFQA, a Shopify Partner agency, with format specs we checked on Snapchat’s official Business Help Center in October 2026.

Diagram of the five steps to launch a Snapchat campaign for a store: business account, Snap Pixel, event verification, Sales campaign and judging by store orders Figure: the short path to Snapchat ads for a Shopify store, from business account to measurement by store orders and MER.

If you are looking for the comparison between Snapchat and TikTok and how to split budget between them, we cover that in our Snapchat and TikTok ads guide for stores. Here we go deep on Snapchat alone.

What are Snapchat ads and why do they matter for Gulf stores?

Snapchat is a daily messaging app before it is a content platform: people open it to chat and to watch their friends’ Stories, and ads appear in those moments. That makes Snapchat advertising different from search advertising. The customer is not looking for your product; you interrupt their day with a short video.

For Saudi Arabia specifically, Snapchat for Business states on its official merchant pages that advertisers can reach 90% of people aged 13 to 34 in Saudi Arabia, and explains that the figure comes from Snap’s internal data for Q2 2024, calculated as addressable reach divided by census figures. It is the platform’s own number, so we treat it as an indicator of audience size, not a promise of results.

What this means for a store in practice:

  • A large young audience you may not reach with the same frequency on Facebook.
  • A fast, direct content culture: a phone-shot video in local dialect usually beats a polished studio ad.
  • Real commerce tools: dynamic catalog ads, Collection Ads that show several products, and an official Shopify integration.

How to set up Snapchat Ads Manager step by step

Snapchat Ads Manager is the dashboard where you build campaigns and follow results. According to Snapchat’s help page, before you can launch any ad you need three things: a Snapchat account, a business account and a Public Profile.

  1. Go to ads.snapchat.com and click Sign Up if you have no account, then enter your business name, email, a password and your date of birth.
  2. Choose your username carefully: Snapchat notes that a username cannot be changed after it is created.
  3. Complete the Public Profile with an image and a bio. A Public Profile is required for advertising, and the brand name at the top of your ad taps through to it.
  4. Enter the business details: ad account country and currency, a phone number and the store website. Check the country and currency before continuing, because billing and reporting are built on them.
  5. Create your first ad account and add a payment method when you are ready to launch your first ad.
  6. Validate the business account: Snapchat asks you to confirm the email address and add an address under Business Details.

An organisational tip: keep the business account in the store’s name under an email the store owner controls, then add the agency or staff as members with the right roles. Some Shopify app functions, such as automatic pixel connection and catalog sync, require an Admin role.

Snapchat campaign objectives and targeting for stores

The five objectives in Ads Manager

Snapchat consolidated its campaign goals into five objectives. Its help page notes that the rollout is gradual, so what you see may differ between accounts:

ObjectiveGood for, per SnapchatWhen a store uses it
Awareness and EngagementBrand awareness, video views, engagementA new brand launch or a big season, on a limited budget
TrafficClicks to a website and landing page viewsRarely; visits are not orders
LeadsCollecting contact detailsStores that sell by pre-order or consultation
App PromotionApp installs and in-app engagementStores that have their own app
SalesCatalog sales and website conversionsThe core objective for a Shopify store

For an online store, Sales is the starting point in most cases, optimising for the Purchase event once there is enough signal. Traffic brings cheap visits that look good in a report but do not necessarily become orders.

Targeting on Snapchat

Snapchat’s official targeting page lists three layers:

  • Standard targeting: location, age, gender, language and more. You can target all six Gulf countries or specific cities and regions.
  • Custom Audiences: a customer list (emails or phone numbers), or store visitors captured by the Snap Pixel.
  • Lookalike Audiences: built by Snapchat from your customer list or Pixel audience.

Snapchat also offers interest segments (Snap Lifestyle Categories), and its Shopify app help page mentions more than 130 of them. Our rule: start broad and let the algorithm learn from the purchase event, keeping narrow interests for tests rather than for the foundation. Remember that format and content target as much as settings do.

Snapchat ad formats and sizes (2026 specs)

These specs come from the Ad Specifications pages of Snapchat’s Business Help Center as we reviewed them in October 2026. Snapchat updates them from time to time, so check the page before production.

Comparison of three Snapchat ad formats with their key specs: Single Image or Video, Collection Ad and Dynamic Ad Figure: key specs of three Snapchat formats for stores, per Snapchat’s Business Help Center in October 2026.

Three practical notes:

  • Safe zones: Snapchat recommends keeping the top 150 px and bottom 330 px of a Single Image or Video ad clear of logos and graphics, because the brand name, headline and call-to-action sit there. Use the Safe Zone toggle in Ads Manager to preview.
  • Audio: Snapchat asks for two-channel audio in PCM or AAC, with a target level of minus 16 LUFS.
  • Commercials can target Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain among the countries listed on the spec page.

Snap Pixel and Conversions API on Shopify

Do not launch a Sales campaign before the purchase event arrives with the right value. A platform that learns from incomplete data looks for the wrong audience.

Step 1: the Snapchat Ads app for Shopify

According to Snapchat’s help page, the Snapchat Ads app for Shopify links your ad account to the store, connects the Snap Pixel in one click and syncs your product catalog for dynamic ads. The app can also run simple campaigns from Shopify’s Marketing section, but Snapchat itself recommends Ads Manager for access to every objective and capability, which is what we always use.

Step 2: set the pixel data mode to Always on

Snapchat recommends switching the Snap Pixel setting in Shopify from Optimized to Always on: in Shopify admin go to Settings, then Customer Events, then App Pixels, find the Snap pixel row, click the value in the Data column and change the mode. Review this setting against the privacy policy and customer consent rules that apply to your store.

Step 3: server events through the Conversions API

The Conversions API (CAPI) sends events from your server directly to Snap. Snapchat offers it in two ways: a direct integration that needs a developer, or an integration through a partner platform. It recommends sending the same events through both the pixel and CAPI with deduplication, and sending them in real time (under one hour).

The official app’s listing in the Shopify App Store talks about the pixel and the catalog and does not mention CAPI explicitly, so do not assume server events are running: check them in Events Manager, and if they are missing, add them through a partner integration or a server-side tracking solution.

Step 4: verify before launch

  1. Place a real test order and confirm the Purchase event appears with its value and currency.
  2. Confirm that Page View, View Content, Add to Cart and Purchase pass the product ID (item_id) that matches your catalog; Snapchat requires this to run dynamic ads.
  3. Compare platform purchases with Shopify orders every week.

We explained the same principle for Meta in our Facebook Ads Manager guide: correct tracking comes before any budget decision.

Creative rules that work on Snapchat

Snapchat ads are watched full screen between friends’ Stories, so anything that looks like a TV spot gets skipped fast. From Snapchat’s official best-practice page and from our own work:

  • Vertical and native: shoot 9:16 on a phone. Snapchat says ads that feature user-generated content (UGC) and speak to the camera can be significantly stronger at driving view-through.
  • The first second: put the hero message in the opening frame. Snapchat advises establishing the brand before the 2-second mark, but without opening on a static frame with only a logo.
  • Short and focused: Snapchat recommends ads of around 5 to 6 seconds, notes that ads of 3 to 5 seconds often drive action, and says an offer message usually works best between seconds 2 and 3.
  • The audience’s dialect: for a product sold in Saudi Arabia, a natural voice in Saudi or widely understood Gulf Arabic, with on-screen text for people watching without sound.
  • Do not recycle other platforms’ ads: Snapchat itself warns against using the same creative on every platform.
  • Honest claims: never mention free shipping, fast delivery or a guarantee unless it is actually live on your store pages.
  • No third-party identity: we never upload a creator video that shows an account name, watermark, platform logo or follow screen.

How to write the brief, choose creators and check quality is covered in UGC creatives for Gulf ads, and how to build the message around the product in how to market a product online.

Budget, bidding and measuring by store orders and MER

Budget

Ads Manager offers a daily budget or a lifetime budget for the campaign. The Help Center says a daily budget can start at 5 US dollars a day (October 2026), but that is a technical floor, not a working budget. The right budget starts from a single order: calculate order contribution (price minus fees, discount, product cost and shipping), which is the maximum acquisition cost you can afford, and target about 70% of it. Then multiply the target cost by the number of orders you need to decide within two to four weeks. The full method is in how much to spend on ads for an online store.

Bidding and the learning phase

Snapchat describes two main strategies: Auto-Bid, where the platform sets the bid to get the most results within your budget, and Max Bid, where you set the maximum the platform may bid. Start with automatic bidding until data builds up, because a low cap can stop the budget from spending. Snapchat also notes that a new campaign or ad set goes through a learning phase that typically lasts 1 to 7 days depending on audience, bid, budget and past conversion volume, and can run longer on lower-funnel goals. Do not judge or make heavy edits during it.

Measurement: store orders and MER

Snapchat attributes purchases to itself that Meta and Google may also claim, and platform numbers include cancelled orders. So:

  • Use Shopify orders and revenue as the source of truth.
  • Never add Snapchat, Meta and Google purchases into one figure.
  • Judge by MER: store net sales divided by total ad spend across every platform. The difference from ROAS is explained in MER vs ROAS.
  • Use UTM links to identify Snapchat traffic in Shopify reports.

Common mistakes with Snapchat advertising

  • Launching without a verified purchase event: a Sales campaign on a pixel never tested with a real order.
  • Choosing Traffic because clicks are cheaper: plenty of visits, few orders.
  • Text and logos outside the safe zone: covered by the brand name or the call-to-action.
  • Horizontal or square video copied from Facebook: shown with bars or cropped badly.
  • Judging in the first three days: before the learning phase ends and before attribution catches up.
  • Ignoring the catalog: a store with hundreds of products and no dynamic ads.
  • Celebrating platform ROAS: while actual store sales have not moved.

From our experience

At Noor Alhuda, a Palestinian embroidery store selling in the United States, Canada and Australia, Snapchat campaigns run alongside Meta and Google. The clearest lesson did not come from campaign settings but from order economics: restructuring prices and shipping raised average order value from $122 to $153 and improved MER by 30% within two weeks. See the Noor Alhuda case study. We apply the same standard in every account: at Xmart, blended MER exceeded 10x in September 2026 from Meta and Google together, a number taken from store sales, not from one platform’s dashboard.

Conclusion

Snapchat ads are a strong channel for stores in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf when they are built in the right order: a clean business account and Public Profile in Snapchat Ads Manager, a Snap Pixel connected to Shopify with verified server events, a Sales objective, native vertical video that respects Snapchat’s ad sizes and safe zones, a budget derived from order margin, and a verdict based on store orders and MER. Frequently asked questions

How do I start Snapchat ads for my store?

Go to ads.snapchat.com, create a business account, a Public Profile and an ad account with the right country and currency, install the Snapchat Ads app on Shopify to connect the Snap Pixel and catalog, then launch a Sales campaign once the purchase event arrives with its value.

What size are Snapchat ads?

According to Snapchat's Business Help Center, a Single Image or Video ad is 1080 x 1920 px at a 9:16 ratio. Video is MP4 or MOV up to 1 GB, and images are JPG or PNG, at least 720 x 1280 px and no larger than 5 MB.

What is the minimum budget for Snapchat ads?

Snapchat's Business Help Center says a daily budget can start at 5 US dollars a day (October 2026). The technical minimum is not a working budget; the right budget comes from your target cost per acquisition and the number of orders you need to make a decision.

Is the Snapchat app for Shopify enough for tracking?

The official app connects the Snap Pixel and syncs the catalog. Snapchat offers the Conversions API through a direct integration or a partner integration, so check in Ads Manager that server events arrive and are deduplicated against the pixel.

Are Snapchat ads better than TikTok ads for stores in Saudi Arabia?

Each platform plays a different role in the funnel, and the judge is store orders, not impressions. We compare the two in detail in our Snapchat and TikTok ads guide for stores.
