Shopify login happens in one place: the Shopify account you created with your email, from which you enter the admin at admin.shopify.com or your store URL followed by /admin. From the same account you manage one store or several, add staff with defined permissions and give agencies temporary access. This guide covers creating the account and the free trial, fixes for common login problems, managing staff accounts and two-step authentication, collaborator access, and choosing a plan after the trial.
Creating a Shopify account and starting the free trial
- Go to Shopify’s official website and choose to start the free trial.
- Sign up with your email (or a Google or Apple account) and create a strong password.
- Answer the initial setup questions (what you sell, where) or skip them.
- Your store is created at a temporary myshopify.com address that you can connect to your own domain later.
Shopify offers a short free trial followed by an introductory period at a token price for the first months under the offer shown at sign-up. Our advice: use your company’s official email rather than an employee’s personal address, because this account is the owner of the store and everything in it. After creating the account, start the setup in the order explained in how to create a Shopify store step by step.
How to log in to the admin
| Method | When to use it |
|---|---|
| admin.shopify.com | General login, then pick the store if you have more than one |
| your-store.myshopify.com/admin | Direct login to a specific store |
| The Shopify mobile app | Following orders and notifications from your phone |
| The Partner dashboard | For agencies and developers reaching client stores |
If two-step authentication is enabled, you will need a code from an authenticator app or SMS after the password. Save the recovery codes somewhere safe from day one.
Fixing common login problems
- “No store is associated with this email”: you registered the store with a different email or are opening the wrong store URL. Try admin.shopify.com with every email you own.
- Forgot password: the recovery option on the login page sends a link to your email; check the spam folder.
- Lost the two-step phone: use your recovery codes. If you did not save them, contact Shopify support from the owner’s email to prove ownership.
- The account is staff, not owner: staff log in through the invitation the owner sent, not a new sign-up. Ask the owner to resend the invitation.
- Store paused after the trial: log in and choose a plan to resume; see Shopify pricing plans to pick the right one.
- Browser issues: clear cookies or try a private window before assuming an account problem.
Staff accounts: never share your password
The most common security mistake we see among merchants is sharing the owner’s credentials with staff and designers. The correct alternative, from Settings then Users:
- Add a staff member by email.
- Define permissions precisely: orders only for the sales rep, products and theme for the designer, reports for the accountant, and financial settings only for those who need them.
- Require two-step authentication for every account.
- Review the list every few months and remove anyone who has left.
The number of staff accounts depends on the plan and increases on higher plans, which is one reason growing teams upgrade. Only the store owner can change the plan, close the store and access billing.
Two-step authentication: mandatory, not optional
Your store holds your customers’ data, your sales and your payment gateway connection. Enable two-step authentication from the security settings of your Shopify account, preferably through an authenticator app rather than SMS, and keep the recovery codes printed in a safe place. Any agency that asks you to disable it “to make work easier” is not the right agency.
Collaborator access for agencies and partners
When you work with an agency or developer, do not create a staff account with a password for them; use collaborator access:
- The partner sends an access request from their Shopify Partner dashboard.
- From Settings then Users you can enable a collaborator request code so no request arrives without the code you provide.
- You approve the request and define permissions (theme, products, apps, settings and so on).
- When the work ends you revoke access with one click.
Collaborator access does not count against staff accounts and keeps the store fully yours. This is how we work with all our clients, and we explain how to verify an agency in what is a Shopify Partner agency and how to choose one.
Choosing a plan after the trial
Before the introductory period ends, go to Settings then Plan and choose what fits. The simple rule: start with the plan that covers your actual need today (staff count, reports, transaction fees) and upgrade when the numbers prove the upgrade is cheaper. We detail the arithmetic in Shopify pricing plans and real cost. If you are still evaluating the platform itself, start with what is Shopify.
After choosing the plan you will find the Apps section in the admin; the first two we recommend save time from the very first order: WhatsApp Pilot for automatic order confirmation over WhatsApp (whatsapppilot.esafqa.com), and Sale Scheduler by SalePilot to schedule your first offers safely (salepilot.esafqa.com).
Extra account security tips
- Make the owner email a company address that more than one responsible person can reach.
- Do not open the admin from public devices, and sign out of old devices from the security settings.
- Review the activity log on any unexpected change to products or prices.
- Keep a copy of your payment gateway and domain settings outside the store.
From our experience: in every project within our Shopify store development service we start with the client as the account owner and work through collaborator access, then train their team to manage the store before handover. Ever Beauty Arabia, a makeup brand with 27 points of sale, needed a catalog site run by its in-house marketing team, so account setup, permissions and training were part of the delivery rather than an afterthought.
Conclusion
Shopify login and the free trial are a simple start if you get the basics in order: an account on the official email, two-step authentication with saved recovery codes, staff accounts with defined permissions, collaborator access for agencies, and a plan chosen before the trial ends. Frequently asked questions
How do I log in to my Shopify store?
Go to admin.shopify.com or your store URL followed by /admin, sign in with your Shopify account email and password, then the two-step code if enabled. If you have more than one store you choose the store after logging in.
How long is the Shopify free trial?
Shopify offers a short free trial followed by an introductory period at a token price for the first months under the current offer. The exact length and terms are shown at sign-up on Shopify's official website.
I forgot my password or lost my two-step code, what do I do?
Use the password recovery option on the login page. For two-step authentication, use the recovery codes you saved at activation; if they are lost, contact Shopify support from the owner's account to prove your identity.
How many staff accounts can I have?
The number depends on your plan and increases on higher plans. Current details per plan are on the official pricing page, and you can always give agencies collaborator access, which does not count against staff accounts.
What happens to my store if the trial ends without choosing a plan?
The store stops working for customers and its data is kept for a period during which you can log in and choose a plan to resume. Do not wait for the last day.
