Ramadan eCommerce Marketing Playbook: Week-by-Week Plan

A Ramadan eCommerce marketing playbook for Gulf stores: shopping behaviour week by week, night-time ad timing, margin-safe offers, Eid delivery promises and scheduling.

Author: Mousa Alhelo · Published · 6 min read

Ramadan eCommerce marketing is unlike any other season because the customer changes sleeping, eating, browsing and buying habits all at once. Stores that win in Ramadan do more than add a crescent banner and a blanket discount: they follow shopping behaviour week by week, move ads and customer service to the night, and make honest delivery promises before Eid. This playbook covers the full plan from the weeks before Ramadan to the days after Eid, for Shopify stores in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the Gulf and the wider Arab world.

How shopping behaviour changes week by week

Ramadan in the Gulf is a sequence of phases, and the products in demand and the right message change in each one:

Phase What customers buy The store’s message
Two weeks before Ramadan Kitchenware, dates and coffee, Ramadan decor, loungewear Preparing for the month, family bundles
Weeks one and two Consumables, personal care, small electronics, daily essentials Convenience, fast delivery, weekly offers
The last ten days Eid clothing, perfumes, gifts, jewellery, cosmetics Guaranteed delivery before Eid, gift wrapping
Eid and after Entertainment, travel, post-Eid essentials Thanking customers, post-Eid offers, repeat purchase

The common mistake is launching one offer that runs the whole month. The message is exhausted in the first week and the customer loses the reason to return. Plan a different offer for each phase and prepare the collections, images and copy before the month starts.

Ad timing: why marketing moves to the night

During Ramadan, browsing and buying concentrate between iftar and the hours after suhoor, while daytime traffic drops. This affects three decisions:

  1. Ad scheduling: if campaigns run around the clock with a flat budget, a large share can be spent in low-converting daytime hours. Review hour-of-day reports in Meta and Google during the first week, then adjust.
  2. Customer service: WhatsApp questions arrive in the middle of the night. Prepare reply templates and automatic order confirmations so customers are not left waiting until morning.
  3. Email and messaging: send campaigns an hour or two after iftar, not in the morning.

Do not change everything at once. Start with a steady budget in week one, read the numbers, then shift budget gradually towards the hours where orders actually appear. Our guide to Meta ads for Shopify stores in the Gulf explains how to read these reports without rushed decisions.

Offers that sell in Ramadan without killing margin

Discounts are not the only tool and often not the best one. Four types of offer work well in Ramadan:

  • Ready-made bundles: a Ramadan box, a hospitality set, an Eid care kit. Bundles raise average order value and hide the discount inside a combined value.
  • Gift-ready products: gift wrapping and a card for a small fee, or free above a certain order value.
  • Free shipping above a threshold: the customer adds a second product rather than paying a shipping fee. Our article on free shipping threshold strategy shows how to set the right level.
  • Rotating weekly offers: an offer that changes every week gives customers a reason to come back, and can be scheduled in advance to run automatically.

In every case, calculate the margin of each product before setting any discount. An offer that looks big in the ad but leaves the order at a loss is not worth running.

Schedule Ramadan offers instead of editing prices late at night

Ramadan is a month when teams are tired, and pricing errors happen in the late hours. Prepare each phase in advance: the pre-Ramadan offer, the weekly offers, the last-ten-days offer and the post-Eid offer, each with a fixed start and end date.

SalePilot is designed for exactly this: bulk editing of prices and compare-at prices by collection, tag, vendor or SKU, a variant-level preview of every change before publishing, scheduled start and end with automatic price rollback, and recurring weekly sales that can be paused and resumed. The product-page countdown timer suits one-night offers. Details are at salepilot.esafqa.com, and the step-by-step setup is in our guide to scheduling Shopify sales automatically.

The most important part is the automatic rollback after Eid. Many stores enter Shawwal still selling at Ramadan prices without noticing.

The delivery promise: the key message of the last ten days

In the final days before Eid, the customer is not asking how big the discount is but whether the order will arrive before Eid. The store that answers clearly wins the order. Agree with your courier on the last order date for pre-Eid delivery per city or region, and show it at the top of the store, on the product page and in the ads.

Keep in mind that Gulf shipping is affected by the Eid holiday and seasonal load, and that cash on delivery raises the share of uncollected orders in this period, so confirming the order over WhatsApp before shipping reduces losses. Our guide to Shopify shipping setup and Gulf couriers covers zones, rates and delivery times.

When the pre-Eid delivery window closes, do not switch ads off entirely. Change the message to digital gift cards or post-Eid offers, because the audience is still active.

Eid and after: from a season to a loyal customer

Orders dip on the first days of Eid, then return. Use that quiet period for three things: confirm that original prices are back, process exchanges and returns quickly, and send a thank-you message to new customers with a repeat-purchase offer. A customer who bought an Eid gift from your store has an acquisition cost that is already paid, and their second order is the cheapest one you will get.

Then write the season report with the numbers that matter: total sales over total ad spend (MER), contribution margin after discounts, shipping and returns, and the non-collection rate on cash-on-delivery orders. These numbers are the foundation of the White Friday plan at the end of the year.

From our experience

For Xmart, an electronics store in Jordan, Ramadan campaigns were part of a continuous monthly content and ads plan, built on a full Meta structure of dynamic catalog, Advantage+ Shopping and retargeting, alongside Google Shopping and Performance Max. The principle we hold in every season is simple: we never pause a winning campaign or restructure an account at the peak of a season without a ready replacement and evidence from the numbers. Conclusion

Ramadan is a season of four phases, each with its own products, message and timing. A store that plans offers in advance and schedules them safely, moves ads and customer service to the night, and promises delivery honestly before Eid leaves the month with profit and new customers rather than exhaustion and forgotten prices. Frequently asked questions

When should Ramadan campaigns start?

Two to three weeks before Ramadan, to build audiences and launch seasonal products. Customers start preparing before the month begins, and ad costs are lower than in the first week of Ramadan.

What is the best time to run ads during Ramadan?

Most engagement and purchases happen from after iftar until after suhoor. Check the hourly reports in your account before deciding, then concentrate budget in the hours where orders actually appear.

Are discounts necessary in Ramadan?

Not always. Bundles, gift-ready packaging and guaranteed delivery before Eid generate sales without sacrificing margin. Use discounts only where there is direct price competition.

What do I do in the last days of Ramadan when I can no longer deliver before Eid?

State the last order date for pre-Eid delivery clearly, then switch the message to post-Eid offers or digital gift cards instead of pausing ads entirely.
