Connect WhatsApp to Your Shopify Store in 10 Minutes
Connect WhatsApp to a Shopify store without the Business API: floating button, order confirmations, cart recovery and back-in-stock alerts in 10 minutes.

Connecting WhatsApp to a Shopify store does not require the WhatsApp Business API or a developer: you install an app, scan a QR code from your phone and switch on the functions you want. Within ten minutes you have a floating WhatsApp button on every page, an automatic confirmation for every order, recovery messages for abandoned carts, and an alert for customers when a product is back in stock. This guide walks through the setup step by step with our app WhatsApp Pilot, and explains why these particular functions matter in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Jordan.
Why WhatsApp is the region’s first store channel
In the Gulf and Jordan, a hesitant shopper does not send an email; they open WhatsApp and ask: is this size available, when will it arrive, can I pay on delivery? If there is no quick way to ask, they leave. Stores running cash on delivery know the second problem too: orders that are never collected because the customer was not serious or forgot. Order confirmation over WhatsApp removes a large share of them.
That is why an Arabic store needs WhatsApp in two places: before the purchase (the button and the conversation) and after it (confirmation, tracking and recovery). The broader picture is in our WhatsApp commerce guide for Gulf stores.
Two ways to connect: Business API or linked device?
| Criterion | WhatsApp Business API | Linked device (WhatsApp Pilot) |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Verified business account via Meta plus a solution provider | Scan a QR code from the app |
| Message templates | Each template needs prior approval | You write your own messages in Arabic or English |
| Cost | Per-conversation fees plus a provider subscription | One monthly subscription |
| Number | A dedicated API number | Your existing number stays on your phone |
| Best for | Large companies sending thousands of messages a day | Small and mid-size stores that want to start today |
The Business API suits large enterprises, but most stores we work with want one number their support team replies from and automated messages go out from. That is what WhatsApp Pilot (listed as Esafqa: WhatsApp Pilot on the App Store) provides; details are at whatsapppilot.esafqa.com.
Setup step by step in 10 minutes
Minutes 1–2: install
Install the app from the Shopify App Store and grant the requested permissions (orders, customers and products, since automation depends on them).
Minutes 3–4: link the number
Open WhatsApp on your phone, go to Linked devices and scan the QR code shown in the app. We recommend a WhatsApp Business number (the free app) because the business profile shows the customer your store name and logo.
Minutes 5–6: customise the floating button
Choose the position (right or left, which matters on the RTL Arabic version), the colour, the default message the conversation opens with, and business hours if you want a “we reply during working hours” notice. The button appears on every store page through a Theme App Extension and can be switched off in the theme editor.
Minutes 7–8: enable automation
Turn on order confirmation, abandoned cart recovery with three scheduled messages, and back-in-stock alerts. Review and edit each message in your store’s voice. Variables such as the customer’s name, order number and tracking link are inserted automatically.
Minutes 9–10: test
Place a test order with your own number and confirm the confirmation message arrives. Then add a product to the cart from another browser, enter your number, opt in to marketing, abandon the cart, and watch the first message arrive on schedule.
Function one: the floating button that turns a question into a sale
A simple button looks like a small detail, but it is where a hesitant customer meets your team. Three tips from our experience: make the default message mention the product the customer was viewing, reply within minutes during working hours, and train your team to end the conversation with a direct link to the cart or checkout rather than “order from the website”.
Function two: automatic order confirmation
As soon as an order is created, the customer receives a WhatsApp message with the details and a tracking link. For cash-on-delivery stores this message is the first filter against non-serious orders: a customer who replies “cancel” saves you a shipping cost and a return. For prepaid stores it cuts the “where is my order?” questions reaching support. Ready-made wording is in automatic WhatsApp order confirmation for Shopify.
Function three: abandoned cart recovery
The app sends three scheduled messages to a customer who left a cart and opted in to WhatsApp marketing: a first reminder after roughly an hour, a second message, then a final one carrying a unique discount code generated for that customer alone. The unique code matters for two reasons: it cannot circulate outside the conversation, and it lets you measure recovered orders precisely in Shopify.
The opt-in rule is not a formality: messages go only to customers who agreed to WhatsApp marketing, which protects your number from reports and keeps customer trust. The full method is in WhatsApp abandoned cart recovery for Shopify.
Function four: back-in-stock alerts and repeat purchase offers
When a size or colour sells out, the customer asks to be notified and the app sends a message automatically once the product is back. This turns a stockout from a lost order into a delayed one. In the same way, you can send a repeat purchase offer after a set period for consumables such as perfumes and skincare.
The message log and analytics: what to watch weekly
- Confirmation messages sent versus orders cancelled afterwards.
- Cart recovery rate: how many abandoned carts became orders after the three messages.
- Which message produces the most orders (often the third because of the discount code, but not always).
- Recurring questions in manual conversations, because they reveal what the product page is missing.
From our experience
We built WhatsApp Pilot because the stores whose ads we manage in Jordan and the Gulf were losing orders at two points: before purchase through unanswered questions, and after it through unconfirmed cash-on-delivery orders. Stores such as Poshy moved from selling on Instagram to a complete Shopify store, and keeping the WhatsApp channel their customers were used to was central to a smooth transition. We published the app on the Shopify App Store so any store can use it; it is part of our list of the best Shopify apps for Arabic stores.
Conclusion
Connecting WhatsApp to a Shopify store with WhatsApp Pilot takes ten minutes: install, scan the QR, customise the button, enable automation and test. The result is one channel that answers the customer before purchase, confirms the order after it, and brings them back if they abandon a cart or a product sells out. Install the app and try the free button plan first. If you would like us to review your WhatsApp setup and order flow, send us your store link on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the WhatsApp Business API to connect WhatsApp to Shopify?
No. With WhatsApp Pilot you connect your number by scanning a QR code as a linked device, and automation starts within minutes with no Business API or template approval.
Can I use the number I already reply to customers from?
Yes. The number stays on your phone and you keep replying manually, while the app sends automated messages from the same number as a linked device.
Are recovery messages sent to everyone who abandons a cart?
No. They are sent only to customers who agreed to receive WhatsApp marketing in the store, in line with WhatsApp's rules and out of respect for the customer.
Will the WhatsApp button slow down my store?
The button loads as a lightweight Theme App Extension that can be switched off in the theme editor at any time and is fully removed when the app is uninstalled.
What is the difference between the free and paid plans?
The free plan includes the floating button; the monthly Pro plan adds automation: order confirmations, cart recovery and back-in-stock alerts. Details are on the Shopify App Store.
