eCommerce Agency Gulf: How to Choose One Before You Sign

eCommerce agency Gulf how to choose: live-store proof, Shopify Partner status, store ownership, a written timeline, support and tracking from day one.

Author: Mousa Alhelo · Published · 7 min read

Choosing an eCommerce agency in the Gulf decides whether you get a store that sells from its first week or a pretty website that needs rebuilding after six months. The criteria that separate the two are clear: live stores that prove experience, verifiable Shopify Partner status, full ownership of the store in your name, a written timeline with phases, defined post-launch support, and tracking installed as part of the delivery rather than after it. This guide turns those criteria into a checklist you apply before signing, and explains the process we follow at E-SAFQA so you know what to expect.

1. Proof of work: live stores, not images

An image portfolio is designed to impress. What you need are links to stores that are working and selling now. For each store:

  • Open it on your phone, not your laptop, because most of your customers will arrive from mobile.
  • Browse a collection, open a product, add it to the cart and enter checkout. Are local payment methods present? Is shipping clear?
  • Check the Arabic version: text direction, fonts, numbers and the translation of checkout buttons.
  • Ask: what exactly was your role in this store, a full build or a theme tweak?

Also ask for one reference you can speak to. The question to ask them: was the store delivered on time, and what happened at the first problem after launch? More on the design criteria themselves in our professional online store design guide.

2. Shopify Partner status: verify it yourself

Shopify lists service partners in an official directory. A listing means the agency has completed enough work on the platform to be accepted and knows themes, Theme App Extensions and app review requirements. It is not a guarantee of quality, but it rules out an agency working on Shopify for the first time with your store. Ask for the agency’s directory page link and open it yourself. Details in what is a Shopify Partner agency.

A higher level of proof: an agency that develops and publishes apps on the Shopify App Store, because publishing passes a security and performance review by Shopify itself.

3. Ownership: everything in your name from day one

Element Correct arrangement Red flag
Shopify store Created with your email and you are the store owner Store on the agency’s account, to be transferred later
Domain Registered in your name in your account Registered in the agency’s name
Theme Licensed to your store A theme on the agency’s licence that can be withdrawn
Apps Installed on your store with your accounts Subscriptions in the agency’s name
Payment gateways Your merchant and bank accounts Intermediary accounts
Meta, Google and GA4 In your name with partner access for the agency In the agency’s name

The agency works inside your store as a staff account or through the Partner dashboard as a collaborator, and its access is removed with one click if the relationship ends. Any other arrangement means your store is a hostage.

4. Timeline and phases

A good proposal divides the work into phases with clear deliverables and defined responsibilities for each side. What we expect in a store build:

Phase Deliverable Main responsibility
Discovery Collection structure, page list, payment and shipping requirements Shared
Setup Store, domain and apps in your name Agency
Design and theme Home, collection, product and cart pages in Arabic and English Agency
Content and products Products, images and descriptions uploaded Depends on your data readiness
Payments, shipping and taxes Enabled and tested with test orders Agency
Tracking Pixel, CAPI, GA4, Merchant Center and Search Console Agency
Testing and training Launch checklist and team training Shared
Launch and support A defined follow-up period after launch Agency

The most common cause of delay is product data and images on the merchant’s side. An honest agency tells you this up front and requests the files before starting. Typical durations from our experience: two to three weeks for a store with a few dozen products, four to eight weeks for stores with thousands of products. Build cost follows this scope, as explained in the cost of building an online store in the Gulf.

5. Tracking inside the delivery, not after it

This criterion separates a design company from an eCommerce agency. A beautiful store without Meta Pixel, Conversions API, GA4 and Merchant Center is not ready to sell, because the first ad campaign will run without data. Ask: is tracking part of the delivery, and are purchase events tested with a test order before launch? If the answer is that tracking is the ads agency’s job later, you will pay twice and lose weeks.

6. Post-launch support

Define in the contract: the support period after launch, what it covers (bugs, small edits, questions), response time, and what counts as new paid work. Ask about training too: will your team know how to add a product, change a price, process an order and launch a promotion without calling the agency? A store your team cannot run stays dependent on the agency forever.

The checklist before signing

  • Three live stores you browsed on mobile through to checkout.
  • The agency’s listing link in the Shopify Partners directory.
  • Store, domain, apps and payments in your name, written into the contract.
  • A timeline with phases, deliverables and responsibilities.
  • Tracking inside the delivery with a test-order check.
  • Policy, shipping and returns pages within scope.
  • Arabic and English (or the languages you need) within scope.
  • A defined post-launch support period and response time.
  • Team training and a handover document with every account.
  • One reference you have spoken to.

If you also want someone to run the ads after the build, the selection criteria are in how to choose a digital marketing company for your online store. The advantage of combining build and marketing in one partner is that the store is built from the start to serve the campaigns.

From our experience

When we built Cliqat, a perfume and skincare store, the challenge was launching a bilingual store with more than 15,000 products from hundreds of brands in a crowded market. The store was built on the Hyper theme with a brand and category collection structure, payments, shipping and tracking configured as part of the build, launched within 60 days, and started selling in its first month. Details are in the Cliqat case study. At the other end of the scale, Poshy moved from an Instagram seller to a complete Shopify store in three weeks with a CRO audit and pricing study before launch, and the first order came in launch week.

E-SAFQA is a Shopify Partner from Amman that develops apps published on the Shopify App Store and builds stores through its Shopify store development service so they are delivered ready to advertise, not just ready to show.

Conclusion

An eCommerce agency in the Gulf that deserves your trust proves its experience with live stores, holds verifiable Shopify Partner status, creates everything in your name, commits to a written timeline, delivers tracking inside the store, and supports you after launch on clear terms. Apply the checklist before signing; the lowest price is rarely the cheapest six months later.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an eCommerce agency take to build a Shopify store?

In our experience, two to three weeks for a store with a few dozen products and four to eight weeks for large stores with thousands of products. The duration depends on how ready your content, images and product data are.

Do I specifically need a Shopify Partner agency?

It is not a legal requirement, but a partner listed in the Shopify directory has done enough work on the platform to be listed and knows themes, apps and review requirements. Ask for the listing link and verify it yourself.

What should the store handover include?

The customised theme, collection structure, products uploaded and organised, payments, shipping and taxes enabled and tested, tracking installed and verified, policy pages, team training, and a document with every account in your name.

What is the difference between a store design company and a digital marketing agency?

The design company builds the store and hands it over ready. The marketing agency brings traffic and orders. Some agencies do both, and the advantage is that the store is built from the start to serve campaigns and tracking.
