Best Shopify Themes for Arabic and Gulf Stores: How We Choose

The best Shopify themes for Arabic stores by category: Hyper, Kalles, Dawn, Impulse and Luxury for beauty, electronics and fashion, judged on RTL and speed.

The best Shopify theme for an Arabic store is not the prettiest one in the Theme Store screenshots. It is the one that supports right-to-left layout without breaking, loads fast on mobile, includes the features your catalog size and category need, and costs a reasonable one-time price. This article explains the four criteria we use when choosing themes for our clients’ stores in the Gulf and Jordan, and reviews the themes we have actually worked with, such as Hyper, Kalles, Dawn and Luxury, and who each suits in beauty, electronics and fashion.

The four criteria for choosing a theme

Criterion Why it matters How to check
RTL support An Arabic store without correct RTL looks translated and loses trust Look for an RTL option in theme settings or documentation
Mobile speed Most Gulf customers shop from a phone Measure the theme demo with Google’s tools before buying
Built-in features Every missing feature means an extra app that slows the store Filters, mega menu, quick view, product sliders, compare
Support and updates An abandoned theme breaks with Shopify updates Last update date and Theme Store ratings

Price is a fifth criterion but the least important; the price difference between themes is small compared with the cost of building the store, while apps that compensate for a weak theme cost money every month forever.

Dawn: the official free theme

Dawn is Shopify’s reference theme: free, lightweight and built on the latest customisable sections architecture. Strengths: excellent speed, continuous updates and full compatibility with every app. Limits: no ready RTL option, limited filters, compare and mega menus, and a neutral design that needs a designer’s touch to stand out.

Suits: small stores, single-product stores and brands with a developer to configure RTL and Arabic. We explain the RTL changes in the Shopify Arabic RTL theme guide.

Hyper: our choice for large Arabic catalogs

Hyper is a paid multipurpose theme with a built-in RTL option, a mega menu, advanced collection filters, product quick view and ready promotional sections. We used it to build the Cliqat perfume and skincare store with more than 15,000 products in Arabic and English, and the Poshy Korean skincare store that was completed in three weeks.

Suits: perfumes, beauty, electronics and any store with hundreds or thousands of products that needs browsing by filters and brands.

Kalles: design flexibility for perfume and beauty

Kalles is a widely used paid theme with dozens of ready layouts, RTL support and rich product page sections. We customised it in Arabic and English for the Fragrance Hub original perfume store with 2,054 published products, and connected it to Merchant Center with Performance Max and Meta campaigns. Its strength is product page flexibility (badges, timers, complementary products), which a multi-brand perfume store needs.

Suits: perfumes, beauty and fashion, and stores that want a rich product page without many apps.

Impulse: for brands that live on promotions and content

Impulse is a paid theme from a well-known developer, designed around promotions, large imagery and marketing sections, with good filters and respectable speed. Its RTL support needs testing depending on the version. Suits: fashion and products sold through imagery and lifestyle, and brands that run seasonal offers constantly, where safely scheduling sales through Sale Scheduler by SalePilot (salepilot.esafqa.com) helps.

Luxury and Xtra: options for specific categories

  • Luxury: an elegant design with white space that suits beauty brands and premium products. We built the catalog site for the Ever Beauty Arabia makeup brand on it, with 165 products in 41 collections.
  • Xtra: a feature-rich theme for large multi-category stores. We ran a performance audit of the Xtra theme on the Xmart electronics store and fixed its speed issues, an important lesson: a feature-rich theme needs tuning so it does not weigh down the page.

The right theme by category

Category Suggested theme Reason
Perfume and beauty with thousands of products Hyper or Kalles RTL, filters and a rich product page
Electronics and accessories Hyper or Xtra Mega menus, compare, browsing by brand
Fashion and lifestyle products Impulse or Kalles Large imagery and promotional sections
Single product or small store Dawn with adjustments Speed, free, focus on the product page
Premium brand or showcase catalog Luxury Elegance and white space

Common mistakes when choosing a theme

  1. Buying based on the demo without previewing it with your actual products in Arabic.
  2. Ignoring speed and then trying to fix it with apps that add more slowness; the rules are in Shopify speed optimisation.
  3. Installing a theme from outside the official Theme Store with no updates or support.
  4. Editing theme code directly without a backup, so the change is lost on update.
  5. Changing the theme after launch for purely aesthetic reasons and redoing translation and setup from scratch.

How we choose themes in our projects

We start by understanding the catalog, category and market, then shortlist two themes, preview each with the client’s products in Arabic on a phone, measure speed, then choose and customise. This is part of step three in how to create a Shopify store step by step, and part of our Shopify store development service, which includes theme selection and customisation to fit your product and market. If you are weighing building the store yourself against working with a specialist, read professional online store design.

From our experience: the Genie Perfumes Arabian and international perfume store needed a fast store with brand collections (Lattafa, Armaf, Afnan, Ajmal), banners and a consistent identity, and was delivered ready to sell in July 2026. Choosing a theme that supports browsing by brand from the start removed the need for extra apps and kept the store light.

Conclusion

The best Shopify theme for your Arabic store is the one that passes the four criteria: RTL, speed, features that fit your category and ongoing support. Dawn for a small start, Hyper and Kalles for large catalogs in perfume, beauty and electronics, Impulse for fashion and promotions, and Luxury for premium brands. Frequently asked questions

What is the best free Shopify theme that supports Arabic?

Dawn is Shopify's official free theme, fast and continuously updated. It supports translation but needs CSS changes for RTL direction. For small stores with a developer it is an excellent start.

Does a paid theme increase sales?

Not automatically. What increases sales is a convincing product page, mobile speed and a smooth purchase journey. A paid theme provides these tools built in so you rely less on apps, but the setup is what makes the difference.

Which theme suits a perfume store with thousands of products?

In our work we used Hyper on a store with more than 15,000 products and Kalles on a store with more than 2,000 perfumes; both provide filters, mega menus and RTL support suited to that scale.

Can I change the theme after launch?

Yes, but changing it means redoing sections, translations and code customisations, so choosing the right theme from the start saves time.

How much do paid Shopify themes cost?

Themes on the official Theme Store are sold as a one-time purchase with no monthly subscription. Prices differ between themes and change over time; the current price always appears on the theme's page in the Theme Store.
