Google Business Profile for Stores: Local SEO Setup Guide

Google Business Profile for stores with branches: setup, categories, posts, reviews, linking to your online store and Gulf tips for free visibility on Maps.

Author: Mousa Alhelo · Published · 7 min read

Google Business Profile is the free listing that makes your shop or branch appear on Google Maps and in local results when a customer searches for “perfume shop near me” or “electronics store in Jeddah”, with address, opening hours, photos, reviews and a link to your online store. For brands that sell both online and through physical branches, it is the strongest free source of local customers and one of the main trust pillars for Google and AI engines. This guide covers correct setup, categories, posts, reviews, and linking the profile to the online store, with tips specific to Gulf markets.

Who needs a Google Business Profile and who does not

The profile is designed for businesses that deal with customers face to face at a physical location, or serve a defined area with their own team. Applied to store types:

Store type Eligible? How to create it
A brand with one or more branches and an online store Yes One profile per branch with its address, and the website link in each
An online store with a pickup point or showroom by appointment Usually yes A physical location with real opening hours
An online store delivering with its own team within a city Possible A service-area business with no visible address
A pure online store shipping only through couriers Usually no Does not qualify; focus on general SEO

If you are in the last category, the basics of what SEO is and Organization structured data on your site play the role of the trusted entity instead of the profile. If you have branches, set up the profile before any local advertising.

Step-by-step setup

  1. Search for your business first: many shops already have a profile created automatically by Google or a customer. Claim it instead of creating a duplicate.
  2. Name: the real business name as on the signage (“Noor Perfumes”) without stuffed keywords or cities (“Noor Perfumes Best Perfumes Riyadh”). Stuffing violates the policies and is a common reason for suspension.
  3. Primary category: the most precise for your business. “Perfume store” beats “Store” and “Electronics store” beats “Retail store”. Then additional categories for what you actually offer.
  4. Address: identical to your website and invoices, in the format Google understands in your country (district, street and building number in Saudi Arabia; area and building in the UAE).
  5. Opening hours: real, with special hours for Ramadan and holidays updated in advance; a profile saying “open” for a closed shop brings negative reviews.
  6. Phone and WhatsApp: a number that is answered. If your main channel is WhatsApp, add its link in the chat or website field.
  7. Website link: to the most suitable page. For one branch, the home page; for several branches, the branch’s own page if it exists.
  8. Verification: through the method Google offers (a video of the location, signage and equipment is currently the most common in the region). Prepare visible signage and a real workplace before starting.
  9. Photos: storefront, interior, products, team. Real, good-quality photos, not stock images.

Categories, products and services

After the basic setup, add what makes the profile useful to the searcher:

  • Products: you can add products with photos, prices and direct links to your online store’s pages. This is the fastest way to connect a local visitor to buying online.
  • Services and attributes: cash on delivery, delivery, in-store pickup, parking, family-friendly. Attributes appear in filters and are read by AI engines.
  • Description: one paragraph saying what you sell, for whom and where, in clear language, with no unverified claims.
  • Questions and answers: add the common questions and their answers yourself (is there delivery? are prices the same online?) before someone else adds them with a wrong answer.

Posts: what is worth publishing

Profile posts appear to people searching for you and stay for a limited time. The types that work for stores:

Post type When Example
Offers Seasons and sales A White Friday offer with a link to the offer page in the store
New products On arrival A new release with a photo and the product link
Updates Hour changes or a new branch Ramadan hours, a branch opening
Events Occasions at the branch A free trial day

One post a week or every two weeks is enough, provided it is real and linked to a page in your store. Posts do not replace reviews or categories in ranking, but they increase clicks.

Reviews: the strongest factor in local ranking and trust

A customer comparing two shops on the map chooses the one with the most recent, highest and most-answered reviews. The sustainable method:

  1. Ask after delivery: a short message a day or two after purchase or in-store pickup, with the direct link to write a review (generated from the profile dashboard).
  2. Reply to every review: by name, with specific thanks for positive ones and an apology plus a practical solution for negative ones, without arguing. The reply is read by the next customer more than by the reviewer.
  3. Never buy or reward: buying reviews or offering a discount for a review violates Google’s policies and can suspend the profile.
  4. Collect reviews on the site too: product reviews in the online store and Google reviews complement each other; see product reviews in Shopify.

If the store sends order confirmations and shipping updates over WhatsApp, the review request can be included in the same post-delivery message, which is what Esafqa: WhatsApp Pilot (whatsapppilot.esafqa.com) makes easy: it sends order confirmations automatically and repeat-purchase offers to customers who opted in.

Linking the profile and the online store in both directions

The profile and the website must tell the same story:

  • From profile to site: the website link, product links in the products section, and post links. Add UTM parameters to the links so GA4 shows how many visits and orders came from the profile.
  • From site to profile: a “Our branches” or “Contact us” page with the name, address, phone and hours of every branch written identically (NAP), an embedded map, and Organization or LocalBusiness schema carrying the same data.
  • Consistency everywhere: the same name, address and phone on the site, the profile, Instagram, Snapchat and local business directories. Inconsistency weakens trust with Google and with Gemini and AI Overviews, which draw directly on profile data.

Gulf-specific tips

  • Two languages: write the description and posts in Arabic first, and include the English name in the name field only if it is part of the actual signage.
  • National addresses: in Saudi Arabia use the National Address as is, in the UAE the emirate, area and building; this is what Google matches with Maps.
  • Ramadan and Eid hours: update them a week ahead; “open now” searches in Ramadan rise during night hours.
  • Delivery and pickup: the “delivery” and “in-store pickup” attributes appear in filters and matter to Gulf customers comparing ordering online with visiting.
  • Multiple branches: one profile per branch from one management account, with photos specific to each branch, not copies of one profile.

From our experience

At E-SAFQA, Google Business Profile setup and local SEO are part of the SEO + AEO + GEO service for every brand with physical branches, because it is the cheapest way to connect local visitors to the online store and to anchor the entity for search and AI engines. With Ever Beauty Arabia, a makeup brand with 27 stores in Jordan, a Shopify catalog site was built with 165 products and 41 collections together with image and reel production for the brand: the model in which every branch needs a consistent profile leading to the same catalog. Details in the Ever Beauty case study. When choosing who manages local SEO for you, ask about their experience with multi-branch profiles, as explained in how to choose an SEO company.

Conclusion

Google Business Profile is free visibility on Maps and in local results for every brand with a branch: a real name, a precise category, a correct address and hours, real photos, products linked to your store, seasonal posts, reviews requested after delivery and answered, and full consistency with the website and other accounts. That same consistency is what makes Gemini and AI Overviews trust your store. Frequently asked questions

Can an online-only store create a Google Business Profile?

The profile is designed for businesses that serve customers at a physical location or within a defined service area. A pure online store that does not receive customers or deliver with its own team usually does not qualify, while a store with a branch, a pickup point or its own delivery team can create one as a service-area business.

How do I verify ownership of the profile?

Google shows the verification methods available for your business: a video showing the location, signage and equipment, or phone, email, or a postcard in some countries. Video is currently the most common in the region, so prepare visible signage and a clear workplace before starting.

How many categories should I choose?

One primary category that is the most precise for your business (perfume store rather than general store), then additional categories only for what you actually offer. The primary category carries the most ranking weight.

How do I get reviews the right way?

Ask after delivery with a short message containing the direct review link, and reply to every review by name. Do not buy reviews or offer a reward for them; that violates Google's policies and can get the profile suspended.

Does the profile help the online store itself?

Yes. The link from the profile to the site brings visits with high purchase intent, the profile anchors your store as a trusted entity for Google and AI engines, and its reviews are read by online customers before they order.
